NGUYEN EARNS BIG SKY WOMEN’S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONORS
OGDEN, Utah – Sacramento State sophomore Jennifer Nguyen has been named Big Sky women's tennis Player of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday. Sacramento State has earned the weekly conference honor in each of the first two weeks of the spring season, with senior Sophie Lohscheidt garnering the award last week.
Nguyen earned her first singles victory of the year at the No. 1 spot in Sacramento State's 4-3 loss at No. 68 San Jose State last Tuesday. She beat the Spartan's top player, senior Sabastiani Leon Chao, in straight sets by a 6-3, 6-4 score. A native of Wollongong, Australia, Nguyen did not compete in doubles against the Spartans.
Nguyen, who was a first team All-Big Sky selection last season as a freshman, has played at the No. 1 singles spot in each of Sacramento State's two matches so far this season. The Hornets will return to action on Saturday, hosting No. 56 Fresno State at 1 p.m. at Rio Del Oro Racquet Club.
