OGDEN, Utah — Sacramento State senior Rebeca Delgado was named the Big Sky Conference co-Women's Player of the Week for the week of April 9-15. The honor is the second for Delgado this season.
Delgado was undefeated in a pair of singles and doubles matches last week and helped Sacramento State cap another undefeated Big Sky season. The Mazatlan, Mexico, native was 2-0 in singles play beginning with a 6-4, 7-5 victory over Amdhela Nemcevic of 45th-ranked Washington in the No. 1 singles match on Saturday. She then blanked Mandy Mallen of Portland State, 6-0, 6-0, on Saturday.
In doubles, Delgado paired with Olivia Boija at the No. 1 spot for two wins. THe team upset the 63rd-ranked teandem of Riko Shimizu and Elianne Douglas-Miron, 8-7 (8-6) at Washington. The victory was the second this season for Delgado over a ranked doubles team. On Saturday, Delgado and Boija had little trouble dismissing Marina Todd and Nayanatara Vadali, 8-2.
This season, Delgado is 14-10 overall at No. 1 in singles and is 10-0 against Big Sky foes. In doubles play, she has combined to go 14-9 overall with three different partners and is also unbeaten (10-0) in Big Sky play.
Sacramento State will enter the Big Sky Tournament as the top seed. The six-team field will take place at Gold River Racquet Club from April 26-28.
