WOMEN'S TENNIS RUNS INTO RED HOT No. 23 UC IRVINE

IRVINE, Calif. — The Sacramento State women's tennis team suffered at 4-0 loss to No. 23 UC Irvine on Monday at the Anteater Tennis Center.

The Anteaters improved to 16-3 on the year and finished the month of April at 8-0. The Hornets (7-9) had their two-match winning streak stopped and are now 0-7 against nationally ranked teams this season.

After UCI had little troubles winning the No. 3 doubles match the other two matches were closely contested. Sacramento State's team of Katharina Knoebl and Jennifer Nguyen were victorious at No. 2, 9-7. The final doubles match saw the 55th-ranked tandem of Franziska Goettsching and Kristina Smith outlast Rebeca Delgado and Olivia Boija by the same score to give UCI the point.

In singles play, the first three matches decided all went in favor of UC Irvine. The remaining three matches were unfinished.

Goettsching downed Sophie Lohscheidt, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 3 for the first points. Smith handed Delgado a 6-2, 6-4, loss at No. 1 and Sarah Stadfelt beat Siobahn Ryan-Bovey, 6-4, 6-1, at No. 6.

Boija held a 6-2, 5-6 lead at No. 4 and Knoebl was in a decisive third set at No. 5 when the match was called.

Sacramento State will play at Pepperdine on Tuesday at 1:30 p.m.
