OGDEN, Utah — Sacramento State senior Rebeca Delgado was named the Big Sky Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week, it was announced today.
Delgado, a native of Mazatlan, Mexico, guided Sacramento State to a 3-1 overall record during the week, including three wins over Big Sky teams. Delgado was victorious in all four of her singles matches at No. 1 and went 3-1 in doubles action, also at No. 1.
She began the week with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Veronika Rogova of Southern Utah on March 14 and then added a pair of straight set victories the following day. At Weber State, she won 6-3, 6-3, before recording a 6-2, 6-3, decision at Idaho State later in the day.
Delgado wrapped up her week with a 6-4, 4-6, 7-5 win over Michelle Okhremchuk of Nevada.
In doubles play, Delgado teamed with Sophie Lohscheidt for an 8-5 win at SUU before partnering with Andrea Gomez Carus at Weber State (8-5) and Olivia Boija against Idaho State (8-2). Her lone doubles loss came in a 9-8 thriller against Nevada with Lohscheidt.
The Hornets will continue Big Sky Conference play this week with home matches against Montana on Friday and Montana State on Saturday.
