WOMEN’S SOCCER FALLS TO CS STANISLAUS, 1-0

Cal State Stanislaus’ Marcy Barnes’ scored the only goal of the contest as the Warriors defeated the Sacramento State women’s soccer team, 1-0, Wednesday afternoon at Hornet Soccer Field.

The Hornets are now 1-7-1 overall while Cal State Stanislaus raised its record to 6-5-1 on the season.

Barnes scored in the 20th minute of the first half off a cross from teammate Alex Fisher. Barnes headed the eventual game-winner past sophomore goalkeeper Michelle Balzouman for the only goal of the afternoon.

Senior Lisa Wrightsman and freshman Kelly Law led the Hornets with four shots (three on goal) each. Sacramento State outshot the Warriors 15-9, but could not penetrate freshman goalkeeper Breanna Vaughan with a game-high eight saves.

The Hornets will travel to Northern Arizona for the team’s first Big Sky Conference match of the 2002 season on Friday, Oct. 4 , at 5 p.m. PST.
