WOMEN’S SOCCER ENDS SEASON WITH 3-0 VICTORY OVER SAN JOSE STATE

SAN JOSE, Calif. — Senior forward Lisa Wrightsman recorded two goals to give Sacramento State women’s soccer a 3-0 shutout over San Jose State, in the final game of 2002 season, Sunday afternoon at Spartan Stadium.

Sacramento State raised its record to 3-13-1 overall (1-5 Big Sky), while San Jose State dropped to 3-11-5 on the season.

The game remained scoreless through the first half until junior midfielder Katie DeClercq broke open the game with a header off a cross from Wrightsman in the 78th minute of the second half.

Wrightsman sealed the victory for Sacramento State as she scored two more goals within the next ten minutes. The Elk Grove, Calif., native received a pass from DeClercq to take on Spartan goalkeeper Erin Lavey and score in the 83rd minute. Wrightsman scored again in the 87th minute by lobing the ball into the upper left corner of the net. Wrightsman has scored two goals in two consecutive games for the Hornets. DeClercq was credited with the assist.

Sacramento State ended the regular season with two-consecutive shutout victories and outscored its opponents by a margin of 6-0. The last time the Hornets recorded consecutive shutouts was against Fordham (1-0) and Stoneybrook (3-0) during the 2000 season.

Wrightsman led the Hornets with seven goals, four of which were scored in the last two games of the season. DeClercq finished the season with four goals and two assists and freshman Linda Sanchez ended with two goals and one assist. .
