SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Eastern Washington''s Jennie Summers recorded a goal in the 10th minute to lead the Eagles to a 1-0 Big Sky win over the Sacramento State women''s soccer team, Friday afternoon at Hornet Soccer Field. The Hornets are now 1-11-1 on the year and 0-3 in Big Sky play while Eastern Washington raised its record to 5-8, 2-1.The Eagles scored the lone goal of the contest when Summers placed a one-touch strike to the top left corner of the goal off a cross by teammate Beth Russell.
Neither team could capitalize on another opportunity as the contest ended with the same score. Eastern Washington finished with a game-high 15 shots including eight on goal while Sacramento State managed only eight shots (one on goal).
Freshman goalkeeper Michelle Balzouman finished with a game-high seven saves. Eagles keeper Jonna Melton recorded the shutout.
The match marked the first win for the Eagles over the Hornets in program history. Sacramento State held a 4-0 advantage in the all-time series since the program began in 1994.
Sacramento State will next host Montana on Sunday, Oct. 18, at Noon at Hornet Soccer Field. The game was originally scheduled for 1 p.m. but was later changed to accommodate Montana''s travel schedule.
