WOMEN’S SOCCER DROPS FIRST BIG SKY MATCH TO NORTHERN ARIZONA, 3-2

Sierra Cristiano’s goal in the 87th minute gave Northern Arizona a 3-2 Big Sky Conference victory over the Sacramento State women’s soccer team Friday afternoon at Lumberjack Stadium.

The Hornets fell to 1-8-1 overall (0-1 Big Sky) while the Lumberjacks raised their record to 4-6-1(1-0 Big Sky).

Sacramento State got on the board quickly as senior forward Lisa Wrightsman found the net on the back of the goal in the first minute of play. For Wrightsman, a native of Elk Grove, Calif., it was her third goal of the season.

Junior Kara Narimatsu gave the Hornets a 2-0 advantage at the half with her unassisted goal in the 28th minute.

Northern Arizona answered back in the second half when Brandy Johnson shot a bicycle kick past goalkeeper Nicole Yoshimura off an assist by Adria Barchi. The Lumberjacks evened the score when Barchi scored six minutes later in the 61st minute of the match off an assist by Karla Rogers.

Northern Arizona scored the final goal of the contest when Rogers found Cristiano in the 87th minute. Rogers was credited with a game-high two assists. The Lumberjacks outshot the the Hornets, 19-8.

Sacramento State returns home to face No. 7 Wake Forest in a non-conference match on Sunday, Oct. 6, at Hornet Soccer Field.
