UC Riverside’s Kerri Fahres’ scored the only goal of the contest as the Highlanders defeated the Sacramento State women’s soccer team, 1-0, Friday afternoon at UCR Soccer Field.The Hornets are now 1-6-1 overall while UC Riverside raised its record to 6-3 on the year.
Fahres scored within the first minute of the second half off a corner kick from teammate Tracey Schuster. After receiving the face from Schuster, Fahres fired a 12-foot shot past sophomore goalkeeper Michelle Balzouman to score the eventual game-winner.
Freshman midfielder Linda Sanchez led the Hornets with four of the teams five shots. UC Riverside out shot Sacramento State 19-5 as the Highlanders posted their fifth consecutive shutout.
The Hornets will return to Hornet Soccer Field to face Cal State Stanislaus on Wednesday, Oct. 2 , at 1 p.m. The match will be followed by the Hornet men hosting Cal State Northridge at 4 p.m.
