LARAMIE, Wyo. -- Melissa Bowman scored the first and last goal to give Wyoming a 4-1 womenâ€™s soccer victory against Sacramento State Sunday afternoon at UW Soccer Stadium.
The loss dropped the Hornets to 0-3-1 while the Cowgirls'' record improved to 1-3 on the season.
Wyoming came out strong with three of their four goals coming in the first half. Bowman gave the Cowgirls an early lead in the eighth minute, followed by goals by Mari Gomes (33:34) and Mary Adetoye (40:06) to give Wyoming a 3-0 lead.
Hornet freshman midfielder Linda Sanchez answered back with a goal in the 42nd minute to put Sacramento State on the scoreboard. Bowman capitalized on a penalty kick in the 50th minute for the final goal of the afternoon.
Hornet goalkeeper Amy Seely recorded eight saves in the first half, but was replaced by junior Nicole Yoshimura in the 36th minute. The goalkeepers each had two goals scored against them.
Wyoming recorded a game-high 15 shots (14 in the first half) while the Hornets totaled only six shots.
Sacramento State returns home to face Creighton on Friday, Sept. 13, at 4:00 p.m. PST at Hornet Soccer Field.
