WOMEN'S SOCCER FALLS TO PACIFIC, 1-0

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Lucera Gallegos'' goal in the 82nd minute gave the Pacific Tigers a 1-0 win over the Sacramento State women''s soccer team Friday afternoon at Hornet Soccer Field. The contest marked the start of the 2002 season for each school. The match also marked the first regular-season contest with Hornet head coach Karen Hanks at the helm.

Both teams failed to capitalize on opportunities to score throughout the match, until Gallegos placed a ball in the top right corner of the goal from 20 yards out. Pacific goalkeeper Megan Pickering recorded her first shutout of the season with four saves.

Junior Amy Seely finished with a game-high seven saves to lead the Hornets.

The Tigers recorded a game-high 14 shots including 8 on goal while the Hornets tallied six shots with only four being on goal.

Sacramento State will complete its opening weekend on Sunday, Sept. 1, at 1 p.m. as the Hornets face San Francisco at Negoesco Field.
