SAN FRANCISCO USES SECOND HALF SURGE TO DEFEAT WOMEN'S SOCCER

Elece McBride scored her second goal of the season but the Hornets lost, 4-1, at USF.

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - San Francisco scored three unanswered goals in the second half and the Sacramento State women's soccer team lost, 4-1, on Friday night at Nogesco Stadium. 

The Hornets (1-2-1) and Dons (2-1-2) were tied up, 1-1, at halftime but San Francisco poured it on after the break with two goals in the first 10 minutes of the second half and another in the 73rd minute.

Senior Elece McBride scored the first goal of the game and her second of the season in the 23rd minute off an assist from fellow senior Jessica Castano.

San Francisco's Mackenzie Krieser scored back-to-back goals to give the Dons the lead before Barrett Bestard and Tyler Campagna tacked on two more goals.

Shelby Tomasello, who made her first career start in a shutout performance against UC Davis last weekend, recorded two saves with four goals allowed while San Francisco keeper Madalyn Schiffel recorded seven saves with one goal allowed.

The Hornets placed eight of 14 shots on goal while the Dons had six shots on goal and 18 total attempts.

Sacramento State has the rest of the weekend off before a road trip to Las Vegas, Nev., next week. The Hornets will meet UNLV on Friday night before playing Indiana State in a neutral site match on Sunday morning.
