WOMENS SOCCER FALLS, 1-0, AT RIVAL UC DAVIS

8/28/2011

DAVIS, Calif. - UC Davis' Ashley Edwards scored the game's lone goal and the Sacramento State women's soccer team lost to the rival Aggies, 1-0, on Sunday afternoon at Aggie Soccer Field.

The Hornets slide to 1-3 on the young season while the Aggies improve to 1-1.

In the 34th minute, Bridget Berman found Edwards with a cross in the center of the box and Edwards' slight touch was enough for the ball to find the back of the net.

UC Davis controlled the ball for the majority of the game, evidenced by a 15-3 edge in shots and 6-2 advantage in corner kicks. UC Davis' Elise Winbrock took a game-high five shots. But the Aggies' shots were mostly off target, as Sacramento State keeper Savannah Abercrombie needed to make just three saves. Jordan Carlberg took two of the Hornets' three shots, placing both on goal.

There was also a large disparity in the number of fouls called, as Sacramento State was whistled 17 times compared to just five times for UC Davis.

In his five seasons on the bench, Sacramento State head coach Randy Dedini has posted a 0-4-1 record against the Aggies. The Hornets are now 4-8-1 all-time in the Div. I era (1994+) against UC Davis.

The Hornets next face Pacific at 5 p.m. on Friday at home before heading to Fresno State for a 1 p.m. kickoff on Sunday.
