WOMEN'S SOCCER WINS SECOND-STRAIGHT BIG SKY GAME, 1-0, VERSUS EASTERN WASHINGTON

Jordan Carlberg had a goal and two assists in a pair of Big Sky wins over the weekend.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The Sacramento State women's soccer team won it's second consecutive Big Sky Conference match on Sunday afternoon, defeating Eastern Washington 1-0 on Caitlin Pulver's first half goal. The Hornets improve to 5-6-1 (2-0-0 Big Sky) with the win while the Eagles fall to 0-11-1 (0-2-0) with the loss.

Head coach Randy Dedini's squad came out strong in the opening minutes, racking up eight shots in the first 12 minutes of the game.

Pulver would connect on the her second goal of the weekend, and of the season, in the 35th minute.

Jordan Carlberg took the ball down the near sideline before chipping in a short cross just inches away from the end line. The ball went over an Eagles defender and Pulver, waiting directly in front of the net, fired in a shot from five yards out. Carlberg and Pulver both subbed into the game only four minutes earlier.

With the assist, Carlberg took over the team lead in helpers with four this season. With three goals and the four assists, Carlberg sits in second on the team with 10 points. Leah Larot still paces the squad with 15 points on seven goals and one assist. Pulver had only one goal in her first two seasons with the Hornets but has now scored in back-to-back games helping the Hornets to a pair of conference wins.

This is the first time since 2001 that the Sacramento State women's soccer team has started conference play with two wins. In that season, the Hornets defeated Eastern Washington, Portland State and Northern Arizona to start 3-0.

It was a dominating offensive performance for the Hornets.

Sacramento State had a 19-0 edge in shots at halftime and finished with a 24-1 advantage. The Hornets took 12 corner kicks while the Eagles tallied just one and EWU keeper Jamie Walker was forced to make 11 saves while Sacramento State goalie Savannah Abercrombie was not tested. Her clean sheet win was her fifth this season and 21st of her career, bettering her own school record.

Sacramento State will play the next three games on the road before hosting its final home game of the 2010 season, and senior day, on Oct. 24.
