WOMEN'S SOCCER SCORES TWO EARLY GOALS BUT SETTLES FOR TIE AT MONTANA

MISSOULA, Mont. - The Sacramento State women's soccer team remained unbeaten in conference play following a 2-2 tie at Montana on Friday, Oct. 16.

With the tie, the Hornets move to 7-3-4, 2-0-1 in Big Sky Conference play, while the Grizzlies move their record to 3-10-1, 1-1-1 in the Big Sky.

The Hornets opened the scoring in the 11th minute as freshman Kelsey O'Donnell scored from 12 yards out off of an assist from senior Danielle Holloway, giving Sacramento State a 1-0 lead.

The lead grew to 2-0 in the 21st minute as Holloway took advantage of a Montana turnover to blast a goal from 25 yards out.

Montana wasted little time cutting the lead to 2-1 in the 23rd minute, as Erin Craig scored a header off of a Brandee Marone corner kick to cut the Hornet lead in half.

The score became tied at 2-2 in the 37th minute as Frankie Brady beat Hornet sophomore 'keeper Savannah Abercrombie from eight yards out on a feed from Erin Craig.

The two teams went into intermission with Sacramento State holding an 11-3 advantage in shots in the first half.

The second half saw the Hornets post a 9-2 advantage in shots, including four chances on frame, but they were unable to find the back of the net, and the match went into overtime.

In the extra session the Hornets put the lone attempt on goal, as with :39 seconds remaining in the 100th minute, sophomore Caitlin Pulver had her shot saved by Grace Harris.

The second overtime saw the Hornets collect two shots, but neither attempt was on frame, and the teams settled for a 2-2 stalemate.

For the match, Sacramento State outshot Montana 23-6, including a 12-3 advantage after halftime.

Holloway led the Hornet charge with six shots, including three on goal, while also netting her first goal of the season. O'Donnell now holds the team lead goals with four, coming on just eight shots. She leads the club with a remarkable .444 shot percentage and a .778 shots on goal percentage.

Brady lead the Grizzlies with two shots, both of which were on frame. Harris posted nine saves.

The Hornets conclude their three match road trip as they travel to Cheney, Wash. to take on the Eastern Washington Eagles on Sunday, Oct. 18. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
