WOMEN'S SOCCER OPENS REGULAR SEASON, CAUSEWAY CUP COMPETITION, WITH 1-1 TIE AGAINST UC DAVIS

DAVIS, Calif. - In the first Causeway Cup matchup of the season, the Sacramento State and UC Davis women's soccer teams battled to a 1-1 tie in their respective season opener on Sunday, August 23 at Aggie Soccer Stadium.
The Hornets opened the scoring in the 71st minute, as sophomore Elece McBride found the back of the net from the left side of the box off of a cross from junior Cori Shreve, giving Sacramento State a 1-0 lead.
Sacramento State, however, could not close out the Aggies in regulation, as in the 83rd minute, Marisa Boge fed Samantha Faber, who scored inside the left post to tie the game at 1-1 and send the game to overtime.
In the first overtime period, UC Davis took two shots, with neither of them finding the frame, and in the second session Sacramento State had one shot, off the foot of McBride, fall wide.
For the match, the Aggies outshot the Hornets 21-6, although both teams put four shots on goal. Sophomore Savannah Abercrombie had two saves in goal, with a team save being credited to the Hornets in the 30th minute. Her counterpart in goal, Sarah Peters, collected three saves in 110 minutes of action.
McBride, who scored her second career goal, came off the Hornet bench to lead the team with two shots, while senior Kim Kemper, junior Leah Larot, sophomore Shea Roberts and freshman Megan Burg each added a shot apiece. Faber led the Aggies with seven shots, with her lone shot on goal being the game-tying goal in the 83rd minute.
The Hornets return to action on Friday, August 28 when they host the University at Albany. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. from Hornet Soccer Field.
