WOMEN'S SOCCER FALLS IN EXHIBITION FINALE TO CHICO STATE

CHICO, Calif. - The Sacramento State women's soccer team dropped an exhibition decision to the Chico State Wildcats by a score of 1-0 on Tuesday, August 18th.
For the second straight exhibition tilt, the Hornets outshot their opponents by a healthy margin, but were unable to find the back of the net. Sacramento State posted a 10-2 advantage in shots in the first half, and finished the contest with a 16-8 edge.
After a scoreless first half, the Wildcats struck just three minutes into the second half with the eventual game-winner, as Ali Sward crossed a ball that Ashley Perlman touched into the back of the net for the 1-0 victory.
Chico State goalie Natalie Bensky posted a clean sheet, stopping five Hornet shots, while Hornet sophomore Savannah Abercrombie allowed one goal on four shots faced on frame.
Freshman Megan Burg led the Hornets with four shots, while freshmen Cheyenne Hayden and Jessica Castaño, junior Erin Tarantino and senior tri-captain Ashley Forbes each provided two.
The regular season opens up on Sunday, Aug. 23, as the Hornets travel to face rival UC Davis. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. The Aggies defeated Chico State in exhibition action this weekend by a score of 2-1.
