WOMEN'S SOCCER FALLS TO SAN JOSE STATE 1-0

SAN JOSE, Calif. - The Sacramento State women's soccer team fell to the San Jose Spartans in overtime, 1-0, on Sunday, Sept. 14 at Spartan Stadium.

With the loss, the Hornets fall to 1-4-1, while the Spartans improve to 1-3-2.

The two teams fought through the first 90 minutes with no score, before the Spartans found the winning score in the first overtime period. Roxy Kamal sent a through ball to the foot of Kaila Waitley, who found Emmy Belding, who was able to put a ball past Hornet 'keeper Jenny Lawrence for the game winner in the 94th minute.

The Spartans outshot the Hornets in the first half 10-3, but Sacramento State returned the favor in half number two, outshooting the Spartans 9-7. The Hornets were led by freshman Elece McBride and sophomore Leah Larot, who was playing in her home town, who tallied two shots apiece. Senior Kara Taylor and McBride added the Hornets only two shots on frame.

Lawrence played well in goal for the Hornets in the loss, totalling six saves on the day. San Jose State received a match-high nine shots from Kamal, while Lauren Sanchez totalled five. Jordan Santos recorded two saves for the Spartans.

Sacramento State will return to action on Friday, Sept. 19 as they host the Miami University Redhawks at 3:30 p.m. from Hornet Soccer Field.
