WOMEN'S SOCCER FALLS TO NO. 21 UC SANTA BARBARA 2-0

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The Sacramento State women's soccer team fell to the No. 21 ranked UC Santa Barbara Gauchos on Sunday, Sept. 7 at Harder Stadium.
With the loss, the Hornets fall to 1-2-1, while the Gauchos improve to 4-1-0.
The contest was scoreless between the two clubs until the 73rd minute, when the Gauchos scored two goals in a span of 19 seconds to take home the victory over the Hornets. After UCSB was awarded a free-kick at the top of the 18, Katy Roby took advantage by putting it into the back of the net at 72:21 to make the score 1-0. After a quick turnover following the insuing kickoff, a long pass found the head of Geenelle Ives, who flicked it onto the awaiting foot of Kailyn Kulger, who gave the Gauchos the 2-0 advantage.
The Hornets had their best opportunity of the match just prior to the Gaucho goals, as junior Ashley Forbes, who connected on her first career goal on Friday night, had a shot saved by a leaping UCSB 'keeper Ali Cutler.
Senior Jenny Lawrence had eight saves in goal for the Hornets, who were outshot by the Gauchos 27-8. Juniors Kim Kemper and Katelin Hopping led the Hornets with two shots apiece.
The Hornets return to action on Friday, Sept. 12 as they take on rival UC Davis in a Causeway Cup clash. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m., following the men's soccer team's clash with Menlo College.
