WOMEN'S SOCCER DROPS 2-0 DECISION TO LOYOLA MARYMOUNT

 LOS ANGELES - The Sacramento State women's soccer team fell to the Loyola Marymount Lions by a score of 2-0, on Sunday, Oct. 7 at Sullivan Field on the campus of LMU.
With the loss, the Hornets fall to 6-3-2, while the Lions improve to 8-3-1 and extend their school record winning streak to eight games.
The game began as a defensive struggle, with neither team able to light up the scoreboard in the first half of play. The Lions posted three shots in the first half, all of which were on goal and saved by Hornet sophomore 'keeper Mandy Trojan, while the Hornets had four shots with none on goal.
Coming out of intermission, the Lions applied constant pressure, outshooting the Hornets 7-2 through the first 35 minutes of the half, but could not break through for a score. That changed in the 81st minute as Gabrielle Parisella found the back of the net off of a cross from Katie Osborne to make the score 1-0. They added an insurance goal in the 89th minute as Michelle Kanama followed home a blocked shot by Jamie Bell past Trojan to account for the final margin of 2-0.
Senior Katie McCoy led the Hornets with three shots, while junior Rebeccah Phillips tallied two shots. Of the Hornets seven shots, none of them were credited as being on goal. Trojan posted six saves for Sacramento State, who also had their first team save of the season in the contest.
The Hornets open up conference play on Friday, Oct. 12 as they host Weber State at 1:30 p.m. The match will be the first game of a doubleheader with the men's soccer team.
