WOMEN'S SOCCER BATTLES NEVADA TO 3-3 TIE

9/15/2007

RENO, Nev. - The Sacramento State women's soccer team remained undefeated after posting a 3-3 tie against Nevada in their first road match of the year on Friday, Sept. 14.

With the tie, the Hornets move to 3-0-1, while the Wolf Pack moves to 0-3-1

Sacramento State lit up the scoreboard early, as senior Amanda Gray connected on a goal off a feed from senior Katie McCoy in the fifth minute to take a 1-0 lead. The Hornets would extend the lead to 2-0 as sophomore Danielle Holloway found the back of the net in the 36th minute off of an assist McCoy as well.

Nevada was able to pull to within one before intermission as Miranda Montejo scored in the 43rd minute to make the score 2-1 at the half.

The score would remain that way until the 67th minute, as the Wolf Pack's Cristen Drummond scored off of a feed from Devin Noe to tie the score at 2-2.

Sacramento State would have the first good opportunity to break the tie, but McCoy's shot in the 74th minute hit the post, and the game remained deadlocked. Finally, in the 87th minute, freshman Leah Larot connected on her second goal of the year to give the Hornets a 3-2 lead.

But the lead would not hold as Karen Zmirak scored on a header off of a cross from Drummond with just 1:08 remaining on the clock to tie the score at 3-3.

The first overtime went by with neither team having a chance on goal, sending the game into the second and final 10-minute overtime period, where neither team was able to secure the win.

Gray's goal marked her second of the season, and fifth of her career, while Holloway's goal was the 17th of her Division I career, although her first in the Green and Gold.

McCoy became Sacramento State's all-time leader in assists following her two assist performance against Nevada. She now has assisted on 20 goals in her career, with five of those assists coming already this season.

Despite the tie, the Hornets have yet to trail in a match this season.

Sacramento State will be back in action on Sunday, Sept. 16 as they travel to Causeway rival UC Davis. Kickoff is scheduled for 12 p.m. at Aggie Field.
