PULLMAN, Wash. - Sacramento State’s three-match winning streak was snapped after a 1-0 loss to Washington State on Sunday afternoon.
The Cougars (3-2-1) scored the match’s only goal with less than four minutes left in regulation.
Washington State was awarded a penalty kick in the 87th minute.
Ana Miller’s initial strike for the Cougars was stopped by Hornet freshman goalkeeper Mandy Trojan, but Miller was able to reach the rebound, scoring the game winner and tallying her second goal of the season.
Sacramento State (3-2-0) outshot Washington State 13-12, led by Katie McCoy, Beverly Goebel and Maggie Murphy, who each recorded three shots apiece.
Trojan made three saves during the match as did Washington State goalkeeper Amber Wittmers. The Hornets also held a 6-4 edge in corner kicks.
The Hornets will travel to play at San Jose State on Wednesday night under the lights for a 7 p.m. match. The team then returns to Hornet Field on Friday for a 3 p.m. game against Menlo.
