Sacramento State freshman goalkeeper Jenny Lawrence continues to excel in goal, including a match-high eight saves at Nevada on Friday night, but her effort couldn’t prevent the Wolf Pack from picking up their first win of the season by a 3-0 score.The Hornet defense and Lawrence, who is averaging 7.3 saves per match, held Nevada scoreless after the first 45 minutes of play, but within a five-minute span in the second half, the Wolf Pack gained a quick two-goal lead.
Freshman Randee Robinson scored unassisted in the 69th minute on a 25-yard shot that beat Lawrence in the upper corner. Minutes later it was freshman Miranda Montejo with her second goal of the season.
Nevada (1-1-1) added its third goal in the final minute of play when junior Naomi Hernandez headed in a pass from junior Terran Hadlock.
Sacramento State (1-2-0) was outshot 21-8 and was caught offside on four occasions. Junior Kelly Novak and sophomores Katie Burton, Rebeccah Phillips and Kayelyn Satkowski all registered one shot on goal apiece for the Hornets.
Sacramento State returns home for a match with Fresno State at 1 p.m. on Sunday afternoon at Hornet Field.
