WOMEN'S SOCCER SHUTOUT IN 2-0 LOSS TO NAU

Sacramento State lost its second Big Sky Conference match of the season on Friday night, 2-0, at Northern Arizona.

The Hornets were held scoreless after the Lumberjacks were able to score early goals in each half. Lindsey Carey scored less than two minutes into the first half to give NAU a 1-0 lead.

The Lumberjacks outshot Sacramento State 8-4 in the first half, but Hornet freshman goalkeeper Brittany Auernig kept things close with two saves. She finished with three saves on the night after playing the full 90 minutes.

Dani Davis scored her fifth goal of the season on a breakaway less than five minutes into the second half for the final 2-0 score.

The Hornets are 2-11-0 on the season and 0-2-0 in conference. The Lumberjacks improve to 4-7-2 and 1-0-0 in the Big Sky.

Both teams tallied five shots on goal, but NAU goalkeeper Andrea Berra had a match-high five saves to shutout the Hornets. Midfielders Maggie Murphy and Linda Sanchez had two shots apiece.

Davis led the Lumberjacks with two shots on frame.

Sacramento State returns to Hornet Soccer Field on Sunday for a 3:30 p.m. match with Causeway rival UC Davis. The match is doubleheader with Sacramento State’s men’s soccer team, who will play UNLV at 1 p.m. The doubleheader is also Youth Soccer Day at Hornet Soccer Field. All youth players who wear their team jerseys to the game will be admitted for $1.
