Sacramento State fell 2-0 to San Francisco, Wednesday evening at Negoesco Field after the Hornets'' third game in the span of six days.Sacramento State(2-5-0) was outshot 21 to 2, with junior midfielder Linda Sanchez registering the only shot on goal for the Hornets.
The Dons (3-2-2) finished the game with six shots on goal and capitalized twice on scoring opportunities early in the first half. Shuree Hyatt scored her third goal of the season in the seventh minute when she found her way to the end of a Stephanie Gray corner kick, beating Hornet goalkeeper Michelle Balzouman.
In the 21st minute, Balzouman was beat by a shot to the left upper corner, after Annika Schmidt broke through the defense and was successful in a one-on-one breakaway.
Balzouman finished the game with two saves, as did freshman Brittany Auernig, who played in between the posts for Sacramento State in the second half.
San Francisco goalkeeper Stephanie Beall finished the match with one save.
Schmidt had a game-high four shots, with her goal being the only shot that fell on goal.
Sacramento State will next travel to Cal Poly for a game Friday night at 7:30 p.m. The Hornets will return home for a match at noon on Sunday afternoon at Hornet Field against Utah State. The men’s soccer team will follow the women, with a match against Cal Poly at 2:30 p.m.
