Sacramento State, playing its third game in a seven-day span, fell to Fresno State 5-0 on Sunday afternoon at Bulldog Stadium.The Hornets held the Bulldogs to just one goal in the first half, but in the final 35 minutes of the game, Sacramento State was peppered with four goals from Fresno State.
In the 19th minute Erika Sugano, was able to place a header on goal past Hornet goalkeeper Michelle Balzouman.
It wasn’t until the 56th minute, when the Bulldogs would get on the scoreboard again. Courtney Sobrero scored her fourth goal of the season, when she was able to punch in a loose ball in front of the goal. Sobrero then assisted on the next goal, sending in a cross that Koleen Anderson put past Balzouman and into the net, making the score 3-0 Fresno State.
Anderson then set up Kortney Lewis, who beat Balzouman in the 75th minute. A Merc Splettstoesser goal in the 89th minute finished the Bulldogs’s scoring at 5-0.
The Hornets tallied three shots on goal, from Jenae Kee, Kelly Novak and Rebeccah Phillips. The Bulldogs finished with 23 total shots, 10 on goal, led by Lewis who had three.
Fresno State goalkeeper Jeannette Paine finished the game with three saves, while Balzouman had a game-high five saves.
The Hornets took four corner kicks during the game, but were unable to capitalize.
Sacramento State will travel to San Francisco on Wednesday for a match with the Dons at 7 p.m. They will return home on Sunday for a match with Utah State at noon, to be followed by the Sacramento State men’s soccer team who will play Cal Poly at 2:30 p.m.
