Sacramento, Calif. - Sacramento State lost its third game of the season, 2-0, to Miami (Ohio), Friday night at the San Jose State tournament.Senior Michelle Balzouman started again in goal for the Hornets and finished the match with four saves, bringing her season total to 14.
Miami (1-1) first got on the board in the 44th minute, when midfielder Lindy Slinger found forward Ashley Swinehart in front of the goal. Swinehart was able to get her shot past Balzouman and give the Redhawks an early 1-0 lead.
Sacramento State freshmen Alecia Homer and Kayelyn Satkowski both made an impression in the game. Homer saw her first action of the season, starting on the backline, while second half substitute Kayelyn Satkowski had a team-high two shots on goal.
The Hornets totaled nine shots during the match, five of which fell on goal, forcing Miami goalkeeper Megan Ortner to make a game-high five saves.
Second half substitute Kathleen Vistica gave the Redhawks a cushion with a goal in the 71st minute to make the score 2-0.
The Redhawks finished the game with seven shots on goal, led by Swinehart, who had two.
Sacramento State will next play IUPUI at noon in to finish the San Jose tournament.
