WOMEN'S SOCCER SUCCUMBS TO SAINT MARY'S, 2-0

Saint Mary''s Sarah Burgess finished with a game-high two goals to lead the Gaels to a 2-0 win over the Sacramento State women''s soccer team, Thursday afternoon at Garaventa Field. The match ended a season-best two-game winning streak for the Hornets.

Sacramento State is now 4-5-1 on the year while the Gaels improved to 4-6-1.

Saint Mary''s controlled much of the game taking 15 shots on goal to Sacramento State''s three. The Gaels also had four corner kicks compared to the Hornets one.

Burgess scored her first goal of the contest in the 16th minute on an assist by Jill Anderson. She would later tally her second goal in the 60th minute after converting on a pass by Mckenna Belzer. Burgess led all players with eight shots including six on goal.

Gael''s goalkeeper Amaya Zabala recorded her first shutout of the season while the Hornet''s Stephanie Shaw recorded a game-high seven saves.

Sacramento State will next travel to Portland State on Sunday, Oct. 12, at 1 p.m, to open Big Sky Conference play against the Vikings.
