Freshman Lisa Marie La Vallee finished with a game high two goals as the Sacramento State women’s soccer team defeated San Francisco, 4-2, Friday afternoon at Hornet Soccer Field.The Hornets’ record improved to 3-4-1 on the year, while the Dons dropped to 4-7
Sacramento State scored first when La Vallee scored her first goal of the game with an assist from Freshman Kelly Novak. La Vallee gathered a break away pass from Novak and then beat the Dons goalkeeper Jenifer Orantes with a ball into the left side of the net.
San Francisco tied the game in the 11th minute, when Sephanie Gray put a free kick into the net through a wall of Hornet defenders.
San Francisco took a 2-1 lead in the 15th minute of the game when Rebecca Shook scored with and assist from Shuree Hyatt.
La Vallee re-tied the game when she scored her second goal of the contest with an assist from fellow freshman Maggie Murphey. La Vallee after receiving the pass from Murphey, slipped by two defenders and shot the ball into the net.
The Hornets took the lead for good during the 67th minute of the contest when Sophomore Mandi Siller directed a corner kick ball from Sophomore Janae Kee into the goal.
Sophomore Kelly Law gave padded the Hornets lead when she connected on an unassisted goal in the 76th minute.
Freshman goalkeeper Stephanie Shaw who won her third game of the season, led all goalkeepers with a game high 10 saves. Shaw also made 10 saves during a 1-1 tie with Cal Sate Northridge Sept. 28.
La Vallee a native of Walnut Creek Calif., now leads the squad with four goals on the season and is tied with Murphey for total points with eight.
Sacramento State will next host Utah on Sunday, Oct. 5, at 1 pm.
