TWO LATE GOALS GIVE NO. 25 PRINCETON A 3-1 WIN OVER WOMEN'S SOCCER
No. 25 Princeton rallied for two goals with less than 10 minutes remaining as the Tigers defeated the Sacramento State women’s soccer team, 3-1, Friday afternoon at Hornet Soccer Field. The Hornets are now 1-4 on the year while the Tigers improved to 4-0.Princeton’s first goal came in the second minute of the contest as Emily Bechncke dribbled through Hornet defenders to the front of the net and placed a shot into the left side of the goal.
Sacramento State tied the game in the 78th minute as juniors Jenae Kee and Jennifer Iha combined for the Hornets’ only goal of the contest. Kee placed a pass over the Princeton defense allowing Iha to gather the pass for a one-on-one opportunity with the goalkeeper. Iha kicked the ball into the bottom right corner of the net. For Iha, a native of Mililani, Hawaii, it was her first collegiate goal.
Kee, a native of Roseville, is now tied with sophomore Marissa Condren and freshman Maggie Murphy for the team lead with two assists.
The Tigers scored the deciding goal three minutes later when Princeton’s Sylvia Morelli fed a ball to Behncke for her second goal of the contest.
The Tigers put the game away in the 87th minute when Esmerelda Negron beat the Hornet defense for a shot into the right side of the net..
Sacramento State will next travel to Nevada to face the Wolf Pack on Sunday, Sept. 21, at 5 p.m.
