RAMIREZ'S HEADER IN OVERTIME LEADS WOMEN'S SOCCER TO 2-1 WIN OVER CREIGHTON
9/11/2011

This header from Victoria Ramirez in overtime gave the Hornets a 2-1 victory over Creighton.
SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Laura Bahno lofted a perfect crossing pass into the box and Victoria Ramirez finished with a header to give the Sacramento State women's soccer team a 2-1 overtime victory over Creighton on Sunday afternoon at Hornet FIeld.
The Hornets improve to 3-5 while the Bluejays slide to 3-3.
After a scoreless first half, Caitlin Pulver broke the draw in the 60th minute. After collecting a pass from Jordan Carlberg on the left sideline, Pulver dribbled toward the end line and, from a step inside the 18-yard box, lofted a high arching shot that squeezed just inside the far post. It was Pulver's second goal in as many games as she also had the Hornets' game-winning goal on Friday against San Francisco.
Creighton tied up the game again in the 79th minute. After Sacramento State keeper Savannah Abercrombie punched away a corner kick, Andrea Zuniga collected the ball on the left side of the 18-yard box and fired a shot that found the back of the net inside the far post.
It remained tied up at the end of regulation but Bahno and Ramirez quickly ended the game just 45 seconds in overtime. Bahno took a few dribbles on the right sideline before launching a crossing passing into the box where Ramirez elevated over a defender inside the goalie box and headed home the game-winning goal.
The statistics backed up the closeness of the game as Sacramento State held a slim 13-10 edge in shots and 5-4 advantage in corner kicks. Both teams made two saves and were whistled for six fouls.
Keeper Katie Jo Swanson played all 90 minutes of regulation for Creighton before being pulled for Alicia Montgomery in overtime.
Creighton's Shonna Fraser and Sacramento State Paige Tucker were each issued yellow cards.
The Hornets have just one game next weekend, playing host to San Jose State at 4 p.m. on Friday.
