DEDINI NAMED BIG SKY CONFERENCE WOMEN'S SOCCER COACH OF THE YEAR

11/10/2010

Dedini has been named conference coach of the year twice in his four seasons with the Hornets.

OGDEN, Utah -
Sacramento State’s Randy Dedini has been named the 2010 Big Sky Soccer Coach of the Year after a vote by the league’s eight head coaches. This is Dedini’s second coach of the year award. He was recognized in 2007 when the Hornets won the Big Sky Championship.

Dedini, in his fourth season as head coach, led Sacramento State to its second Big Sky Conference title last weekend. The Hornets entered postseason play as the No. 3 seed and beat No. 2 Portland State in the semifinals, 2-1. They knocked out No. 1 seeded and tournament host Northern Arizona, 1-0, in the championship match.

In the title match Sacramento State got on the board first on an Elece McBride goal in the 51st minute. Kelsey O’Donnell assisted on the goal. O'Donnell also assisted on McBride's game-winning goal against Portland State in the semifinals.

Sacramento State will travel to Palo Alto, Calif. to take on No. 1 ranked Stanford in the first round of the NCAA Women's College Cup. In 2007 the Hornets also faced Stanford in the first round. This will be the third time the Big Sky Conference champion has faced Stanford in the first round of the NCAA College Cup.
