WOMEN'S SOCCER DRAWS STANFORD IN FIRST ROUND OF NCAA WOMEN'S COLLEGE CUP

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The Sacramento State women's soccer team has drawn No. 1 seeded Stanford in the first round of the NCAA Women's Soccer College Cup. The Cardinal are hosting the first and second rounds at Laird Q. Cagan Stadium with the Hornets joining Long Beach State and Santa Clara in Palo Alto, Calif.

There will be a doubleheader on Friday, Nov. 12, with LBSU and Santa Clara meeting at 4:30 p.m. and the Hornets and Cardinal meeting in the nightcap at 7 p.m. The winners of each game will meet in the second round of the tournament at 1 p.m. on Sunday.

The Hornets (9-9-1) earned the No. 16 seed in the 64-team field after surging to the Big Sky Conference championship by defeating Portland State 2-1 and host Northern Arizona 1-0.

Stanford (18-0-2) won the Pac-10 title after going undefeated in league play and in the No. 1 ranked team in the nation according to the National Soccer Coaches Association of American top-25 poll. The Pac-10 does not have a postseason conference tournament. Portland, North Carolina and Maryland are the other No. 1 seeds.

Sacramento State and Stanford met in the first round of the 2007 NCAA College Cup with the Cardinal prevailing.

Long Beach State (14-5-2) defeated UC Irvine 1-0 to clinch the Big West Tournament title while No. 14 ranked Santa Clara (12-6-2) is an at-large selection from the West Coast Conference
