9/28/2009
OGDEN, Utah - Sacramento State goalkeeper Savannah Abercrombie has been named Big Sky Conference Defensive Player of the Week for the week of Sept. 21-27.
Abercrombie recorded her fourth shutout of the season in the Hornets 2-0 victory over Fresno State on Sunday, which marked the first time the Hornets had defeated the Bulldogs in Fresno in eight attempts. She collected four saves in her 90 minutes in goal, improving her record to 4-3-2.
A sophomore from Sacramento’s El Camino HS, Abercrombie now has 12 career shutouts, a mark good for second all-time in school history. After posting an impressive 0.68 goals against average a season ago, she has improved on that mark this season. Abercrombie currently sports a 0.67 goals against average, which ranks 46th nationally. As a team, the Hornets rank 33rd defensively, allowing opponents to score an average of just 0.64 goals per game.
The honor marks the second time this season Abercrombie has been recognized by the conference.
Sacramento State returns to action on Friday, Oct. 2 as they travel to No. 9 California. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
