WOMEN'S SOCCER FALLS FOR FIRST TIME THIS SEASON AT NEVADA

RENO, Nev. - The Sacramento State women's soccer team dropped its first decision of the year on Sunday, falling to the Nevada Wolf Pack by the score of 2-0.

With the loss, the Hornets fall to 3-1-2 on the season, while Nevada improves to 2-5-0.

The match was mainly contested in the midfield, especially in the first half where only four shots were credited, three for the Hornets and one for the Wolf Pack. Junior Cori Shreve took the first shot of the match inside of the fifth minute, missing wide of the goal. Freshman Megan Burg also went wide with an effort in the 30th minute, while sophomore Elece McBride had a shot blocked in the 39th minute.

The first shot on goal in the contest did not occur until the 57th minute, when Nevada's Natalie Ratnavira had her shot saved by Hornet sophomore goalkeeper Savannah Abercrombie. The Hornets chances in the match came in the latter stages, as Burg had a shot saved by Wolf Pack 'keeper Dana Moreno in the 67th minute, and Shreve had an effort stopped by Moreno in the 80th minute.

Nevada struck for the matches first goal in the 81st minute, as Jill Erickson scored on a direct free kick from nearly 35 yards out. The Wolf Pack then scored on another set piece off of a free kick in the 87th minute, as Ellie Stott headed home a free kick from Kesia Broome to give Nevada a 2-0 victory.

The Wolf Pack outshot the Hornets 8-5 for the match, accounting for seven shots in the second 45 minute session. The Hornets got two shots apiece from Burg and Shreve and a lone shot from Elece McBride. Abercrombie provided a lone save in the contest.

The Hornets return to action on Friday, September 18 as they travel to San Diego State to take on the Aztecs. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
