SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The Sacramento State women's soccer team remained unbeaten on the season after tying the Pacific Tigers, 0-0, in double overtime on Friday, September 11 at Hornet Soccer Field.
With the tie, the Hornets record runs to 3-0-2, while the Tigers moved their record to 3-2-1.
Sacramento State held the upper hand in the first half, controlling the ball for the majority of first 45 minutes. The Hornets saw their best opportunity to score fall by the wayside in the first half, when in the 18th minute sophomore Elece McBride had her shot hit the crossbar. The rebound came to the foot of junior Cori Shreve, who had her shot blocked by a Pacific defender before it could cross the goal line.
The Hornets held an 8-6 advantage in first half shots, but were unable to find the back of the goal in the period.
The second half saw the tide shift toward Pacific, who outshot the Hornets 8-3 in the second 45 minutes of play. The game changed in the 85th minute, as Kortney Agdeppa received a red card following her second bookable offense, forcing Pacific to play a man down the rest of the contest. The Hornets were unable to post a shot attempt in the final few moments of the half, sending the game to overtime.
In the first overtime session, the Hornets received a shot by freshman Megan Burg that was saved by Pacific 'keeper Jill Medigovich. Senior Danielle Holloway had an attempt later in the period blocked, and the team's moved to a second overtime period.
Sacramento State had an opportunity in the 106th minute inside of the overtime session, but a blast from the top of the 18 off the foot of senior Kim Kemper was saved by Medigovich, and the game finished in a 2-2 tie.
For the match, Sacramento State was outshot by Pacific 18-15, but the Hornets held a 7-5 advantage in shots on goal.
Holloway, Kemper and Shreve each posted three shots to pace the Hornets, while Berg and Kemper put two shots on frame apiece. Sophomore Savannah Abercrombie posted her third shutout of the season, recording five saves. She moved her goals against to just 0.20 goals per game.
Maricela Padilla led Pacific with six shots, while Angelica Figueroa added four. Medigovich had six saves for the Tigers in goal.
Sacramento State returns to action on Sunday, September 13 as they travel to take on the Nevada Wolf Pack. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
