WOMEN'S SOCCER ROLLS TO 6-0 VICTORY OVER DOMINICAN

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The Sacramento State women's soccer team remained unbeaten on the season after defeating the Dominican University Penguins by a score of 6-0 on Friday, September 4 at Hornet Soccer Field.
With the victory the Hornets improve to 3-0-1 while the Penguins fall to 0-2-0.
Sacramento State wasted little time lighting up the scoreboard, as in the 11th minute sophomore Elece McBride had a shot blocked inside of the 18 box, but the deflection came to the foot of freshman Kelsey O'Donnell, who blasted it the back of the net to give the Hornets a 1-0 lead.
McBride entered the scoring column herself in the 19th minute, as the Hornets once again took advantage of a deflected shot, this time off the foot of senior Kim Kemper, to make the score 2-0.
Two more goals came to finish the half, as junior Cori Shreve scored her first ball of the season in the 32nd minute after a cross off the foot of sophomore Caitlin Pulver, with Kemper setting up the play with a brillant through ball from midfield. With seconds remaining in the half, junior Leah Larot took advantage of a through ball off the foot of Shreve and scored on a 1v1 breakaway to give Sacramento State a 4-0 halftime lead.
The Hornets wasted little time in striking once again to start the second half, as in the 53rd minute junior Erin Tarantino took the ball on a breakway with just one defender back and crossed a perfect pass to Pulver, who scored her first career goal to push the advantage to 5-0.
Larot finished the scoring for the Hornets in the 86th minute, scoring her second goal of the game on a breakaway 1v1 against Penguin 'keeper Jill Rizo.
For the contest, the Hornets outshot the Penguins 30-7, with the Hornets putting a staggering 18 shots on frame. Larot lead the Hornets with four shots, all of which were on goal, while sophomore Jordan Carlberg added four shots, of which three were on goal.
Sophomore Savannah Abercrombie, the reigning Big Sky Conference Defensive Player of the Week, posted a perfect first half in goal, and junior Mandy Trojan allowed no goals by in relief in the second half.
Sacramento State returns to action on Friday, September 11 as they host the Pacific Tigers at Hornet Soccer Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
