SAVANNAH ABERCROMBIE NAMED BIG SKY CONFERENCE DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
8/31/2009
OGDEN, Utah - Sacramento State sophomore goalkeeper Savannah Abercrombie was named Big Sky Conference Defensive Player of the Week after pitching back-to-back shutouts against Albany and UC Santa Barbara this past weekend.
Abercrombie faced 35 shots over 180 minutes of action in two matches, posting 12 saves and two clean sheets. The Hornets won both games by a 1-0 margin, which included a victory over the preseason favorite to win the Big West Conference, UCSB.
A native of Sacramento, Abercrombie has now recorded 10 shutouts in two seasons, which places her in a tie for third place all-time with Kristy Milanese (1998-99). She also now ranks sixth in Big Sky history in shutouts. The award marks her first career weekly honor.
The Hornets return to action on Friday, Sept. 4 as they host Dominican at 2:30 p.m. at Hornet Soccer Field.
