WOMEN'S SOCCER EXTENDS WIN STREAK TO THREE WITH 4-0 VICTORY OVER CAL STATE BAKERSFIELD

9/26/2008

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Junior Kim Kemper scored a  pair of first half goals, leading the Sacramento State women's soccer team to a 4-0 victory over the Cal State Bakersfield Roadrunners on Friday, Sept. 26.

WIth the win, the Hornets improve to 4-4-1 on the season, while the Roadrunners fall to 4-6-1.

Kemper wasted little time getting the Hornets on the scoreboard, as in the 10th minute she took advantage of a defensive breakdown that left her 1-on-1 with the 'keeper. She went on to shoot a ball into the top left corner of the net for her second goal of the season, giving the Hornets a 1-0 advantage.

The advantage grew to 2-0 in the 17th minute, as senior Sarah Howard sent a cross that found the foot of sophomore Cori Shreve, who connected on her first career goal to provide the Hornets breathing room.

The 35th minute saw junior Christina Trenton provide her first career assist on Kemper's second goal of the match, stretching the lead to 3-0 in favor of Sacramento State.

In the second half, the Hornets found the back of the net one final time, as in the 55th minute senior Kara Taylor served a free kick that found the head of Kemper, who redirected toward the foot of junior Ashley Forbes, who scored her second goal of the season, accounting for the final margin of 4-0.

For the match, the Roadrunners outshot the Hornets 12-10, with Sacramento State scoring on four of their six shots on goal. Forbes led the Hornets with four shots, while redshirt freshman 'keeper Savannah Abercrombie provided five saves and her second career clean sheet in as many starts.

The Hornets will finish out their two-game road swing on Sunday, Sept. 28 as they face Fresno State. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
