KATIE McCOY EARNS THIRD STRAIGHT BIG SKY OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK AWARD

11/5/2007

OGDEN, Utah - Sacramento State senior Katie McCoy was named Big Sky Conference Co-Offensive Player of the Week for the week of Oct. 29-Nov. 4, as announced by the conference today.

McCoy scored an unassisted game-winning goal in the 39th minute against Portland State on Friday, clinching Sacramento State its first ever Big Sky Title. For McCoy, it was her Big Sky leading 12th goal of the season, while giving her a school single-season record 31 points.  It was her fifth game-winner of the season, including third during conference play, which both lead the Big Sky.

With the announcement, McCoy becomes the first player to earn Big Sky Offensive Player of the Week honors three straight weeks. She joins Tiera Como of Eastern Washington (2003-06), who earned defensive player of the week honors three straight time in 2005, as the only three-time consecutive weekly award winners in conference history.

McCoy has now earned the award four times this season, and six times in her career, which sets a new mark in the Big Sky for both most offensive POTW honors in a season, and in a career.

Sacramento State hosts the Big Sky Conference Soccer Championship this week, Fri., Nov. 9 and Sun., Nov. 11 at Hornet Soccer Field. The No. 1 seeded Hornets will face the No. 4 seed Portland State in a semifinal matchup on Friday at 1:30 p.m.
