10/21/2000

OGDEN, Utah— Women's soccer earned its first Big Sky playoff berth since 1997 with a 1-0 shutout against the Wildcats of Weber State, Saturday afternoon at P.E. Playfield in Ogden, Utah.

Junior midfielder Desirae Feria’s unassisted goal in the 44th minute was all that was needed for the Hornets to earn a fourth-place finish in the Big Sky Conference. The top four teams in the Big Sky advance to the conference playoffs. For Feria, a Hayward, Calif. native, it was the first collegiate goal of her career.

Freshman goalkeeper Amy Seely’s nine-save shutout performance places her fourth overall in school history for shutouts in a season with 4.5. The West Linn, Ore., native finishes her first collegiate season with 71 saves and a 1.31 goal against average, good for third all-time in program history.

The Hornets’ 9-5-2 finish and 34 goals scored are new school records for the program. the team also tied a school record for goals allowed in a season, set in 1998, with 22.

The team will await the winner of the Montana/Northern Arizona contest to determine where they will travel for the Big Sky Tournament. If the Grizzlies win, the Hornets will travel to Missoula to take on Montana in the first round. A Lumberjack win will send the Hornets to Pocatello, Idaho, to face the Bengals in the first round. Big Sky Tournament action takes place Oct. 26-29.
