WOMEN’S SOCCER TIES WYOMING, 2-2, IN DEFENSIVE CONTEST

9/3/2000

SACRAMENTO, Calif.— Brittany Hijlkema scored on a cross from Krissy

Collyer in the 46th minute to tie the contest for the last time at 2-2

as the Hornets and Cowgirls engaged in a defensive battle through two

overtime periods at Hornet Field Sunday afternoon.

After Hijlkema’s goal early in the second period, the game remained

scoreless for the next 73 minutes.

The tie keeps the team undefeated in the 2000 season at 3-0-1 and

continues a school-best start for the Hornet program (1994-present).

Wyoming (2-1-1) struck first in the 29th minute when Anne Maddock scored

to put the Cowgirls ahead, 1-0. The Hornets answered back in the 40th

minute when Collyer found the net after a pass by Desirae Feria.

Kelly McShane put the Cowgirls ahead for the last time with a goal in

the 44th minute to end the half with a score of 2-1.

The team will next host Eastern Washington on Wednesday, Sept. 6, at

3:00 p.m. as part of a home doubleheader with the men’s soccer team at

Hornet Field.
