SAN JOSE, Calif.— Lisa Wrightsman scored the only two goals of the game
for the Hornets in the first period
and freshman goalkeeper Amy Seely completed the first shutout of her
collegiate career as Sacramento State defeated San Jose State, 2-0, at
Spartan Stadium Thursday night.
The win puts Sacramento State at a school-record 3-0 to start the 2000
season. Previously, the best start for a Hornet team was 2-1 in the
squad’s first year as a program in 1994.
Wrightsman put Sacramento State on the board in the 32nd minute after a
free kick assist from Brittany Hijlkema.
Soon after, she scored her second and final goal of the contest in the
34th minute when Kiley Van Orman assisted with a perfect lead pass to
give Wrightsman a one-on-one shot with the goalkeeper.
Seely finished the contest in goal with eight saves in her first full
game as a Hornet.
Sacramento State will next host Wyoming on Sunday, Sept. 3, at 1:00 p.m.
at Hornet Field as part of a doubleheader with the men’s soccer team.
