SACRAMENTO, Calif.— Lori Kerswell completed the hat trick for Sacramento
State by finishing with three goals and seniors Lisa Casey and Krissy
Collyer each added a goal to give the Hornets their best start in school
history with a win against Nevada Sunday afternoon at Hornet Field.
Sacramento State’s total of 34 shots against the Wolf Pack tied a school
record set by the Hornets on Oct. 20, 1996, when they attempted 34
against Cal State Hayward en route to a 4-0 victory over the Pioneers.
Kerswell set the stage early for Sacramento State by scoring on a free
kick assist from Mattea Stanger in the games’ second minute. Nevada
answered back in the 28th minute after Kaulawena Rowe cleaned up a
deflection off of Hornet goalkeeper Amy Seely.
Collyers’ go-ahead header from Casey in the 33rd minute gave Sacramento
State the lead for good and Casey added a 35 yard strike from the left
sideline in the 42nd minute to give the Hornets a 3-1 advantage at
halfime.
Kerswell then tallied the final two goals of the game in the second
period, including a penalty kick, to seal the victory.
The Hornets will next travel to San Jose State to take on the Spartans
on Thursday, Aug. 31st, at 7:30 p.m.
Sacramento State senior midfielder Kristin Hoffman suffered a knee
injury during the game and may miss the rest of the season.
