SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Freshman forward Kim Kemper was named co-Big Sky Conference Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week after scoring the game winner for Sacramento State in the Hornets’ 1-0 victory at Portland State last Friday.
Kemper headed in Katie McCoy’s free kick from 10-yards-out in the 30th minute. It was the 2006 Bella Vista High School graduate’s third goal of the season and her second game winner of the year.
The victory clinched Sacramento State a berth in the Big Sky postseason tournament for the second consecutive season. The Hornets, who hold the No. 3 seed, will kickoff at 9 a.m. (PDT) against No. 2 seed Montana at Davis Field in Pocatello, Idaho on Friday.
Sacramento State (10-7-2, 4-2-1 Big Sky) produced its best overall record in the 13-year history of the program, while seven players received all-Big Sky honors.
It is the first time Kemper has received player of the week honors in her career. The Orangevale, Calif., native is the third Hornet to earn the honor this year (Kayelyn Satkowski, Oct. 2, and Katie McCoy, Sept. 12).
