10/2/2005

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Mandi Van Dorn’s goal seven minutes into overtime helped Pacific to a 1-0 victory over Sacramento State on Sunday afternoon at Amos Alonzo Stagg Memorial Stadium.

The Tigers improve to 7-4-1 on the season as the Hornets fall to 3-5-2.

Pacific controlled much of the match, taking 24 shots compared to Sacramento State’s three, but freshman goalkeeper Jenny Lawrence proved her durability making a match-high eight saves and holding the Tigers scoreless during regulation.

Van Dorn scored the golden goal in the 97th minute on a header to the far corner off a cross from Carla Vellutini.

Sophomores Katie McCoy and Kayelyn Satkowski along with junior Linda Sanchez each recorded a shot for the Hornets, while the Tigers were led by Van Dorn and Bunny Dickson, who each recorded three shots on frame.

Sacramento State next plays at Saint Mary’s at 3 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon before returning to Hornet Field for a four-match homestand. The Hornets next home game will also be their Big Sky conference opener against Eastern Washington on Friday, Oct. 7 at 3 p.m.
