The spring is treating the women''s soccer team well as the team is undefeated and now 2-0-1.Most recently, the Hornets posted a 2-1 victory over UC Davis on Sunday afternoon at Hornet Soccer Field.
The Aggies took a 1-0 lead in the first half, but Sacramento State responded with two second-half goals.
In the 60th minute sophomore Kelly Novak collected the ball in the midfield and sent a through ball to junior Courtney Gorham down the left flank. Gorham beat a defender on her way toward goal and shot the ball low to beat the UC Davis goalkeeper, tying the game at 1-1.
With eight minutes left in the game, freshman Megan DeGuerre got the game-winner. Freshman Amanda Gray sent in a shot from 15-yards out that deflected off the Aggie goalkeeper and fell to DeGuerre. The Brentwood, Calif., native beat one defender and then sent her shot far post for the game-winner.
For Gorham and DeGuerre, it was their first goals of the spring season.
"I am very happy with the way the team is coming together," head coach Katie Poynter said. "Everyone is learning to find a way to contribute in the new system."
In the second game of the doubleheader, Sacramento State and San Jose State tied 0-0.
