Sacramento State will finish its season at home with matches against Montana (10-5-1, 3-0-1) on Friday, Oct. 29 and Eastern Washington (10-4-1, 3-0-1) on Sunday, Oct. 31.
Prior to Sunday’s match, seniors Jamie Howard, Sela Suarez, Jenae Kee, Michelle Balzouman and Jennifer Iha will be recognized for their contributions to the program.
The Hornets are coming off a road trip where they fell 1-0 to Idaho State and 2-1 to Weber State. Against the Bengals, Sacramento State fell behind 1-0 in the seventh minute, but the defense remained strong, holding Idaho State to zero shots on goal in the second half. The Hornets could not score the equalizer, despite shots from Linda Sanchez and Kee. Against Weber State, freshman Rebeccah Phillips scored her first career goal and the first Hornet goal in 922 minutes. The Wildcats responded with two second-half scores and Sacramento State dropped its 11th match in a row.
Sanchez leads Sacramento State with seven points, two goals and three assists...Sanchez is also sixth in the Big Sky Conference with 35 shots taken and 2.19 per game...four freshmen (Amanda Gray, Alecia Homer, Katie McCoy and Phillips) have scored their first collegiate goals this season...Sanchez, juniors Amber Dragomir and Mandi Siller, sophomore Natalia Romo, and freshman Tiffany Fraser have played in all 16 of Sacramento State’s matches...the Hornets lead the Big Sky with 6.12 saves per game...goalkeepers Brittany Auernig and Balzouman are sixth and seventh in the Big Sky, respectively, with 54 and 40 saves.
The Hornets conclude their season at Hornet Soccer Field with first place Montana on Friday, Oct. 29 at 3 p.m. and second place Eastern Washington on Sunday, Oct. 31 at 1 p.m.
Montana is currently on a five-game winning streak, including a 1-0 win over Northern Arizona on Sunday, Oct. 24. Sophomore Lindsey Winans scored the game-winner against the Lumberjacks and also leads the Big Sky with eight goals this season.
Eastern Washington, like the Grizzlies, is also undefeated in the conference. The Eagles are coming off of a 1-0 win over the Lumberjacks on Friday, Oct. 22. Sophomore goalkeeper Tiera Como is tied for second in the conference with five shutouts and leads the Big Sky with 5.43 saves per game.
