SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Sacramento State fell 2-0 to UC Davis at Hornet Soccer Field on Sunday afternoon. Under dark clouds and strong winds, the Aggies (5-8-1) scored one goal in each half.
UC Davis scored early, when Kristsin Aja got her second goal of the season. She found the end of a Lisa La Valle cross and from five yards in front of the net, struck the ball past Hornet freshman goalkeeper Brittany Auernig.
The Aggies tallied their insurance goal late in the second half, with Lindsey Raymond scoring her eighth goal of the season in the 80th minute. Annie McAllister broke free of the Hornet defense and dribbled toward goal before passing the ball to Raymond, who beat Auernig from 7-yards out.
UC Davis outshot Sacramento State (2-12-0), 14-11 and finished with seven shots on goal to the Hornets’ five. Raymond led the Aggies with three shots on goal, while Hornet midfielder Linda Sanchez also finished the match with three shots on frame. Freshman Amanda Gray and sophomore Maggie Murphy also had one shot on goal apiece.
Auernig finished the game with five saves as did UC Davis goalkeeper Krystyn Lizak, who garnered a shutout.
The Aggies committed 19 fouls during the match and Sacramento State committed 12.
Sacramento State’s defense was led by juniors Amber Dragomir and Mandi Siller, sophomore Natalia Romo and freshman Tiffany Fraser.
The Hornets will return to the road and Big Sky Conference play this week. Sacramento State travels to Idaho State for a 3 p.m. match on Thursday and will face Weber State on Saturday at 10:30 a.m.
