NOTES

Sacramento State travels to Northern Arizona for a 7 p.m. match with the Lumberjacks. It will be the Hornets’ second Big Sky match in 2004 and the first for NAU. The Hornets are loking to break a seven-game losing streak, which includes a 1-0 loss to Portland State last Friday. Sacramento State narrowly missed scoring the equalizer against the Vikings, when freshman forward Amanda Gray broke free toward goal, but her shot was punched over the crossbar by PSU goalkeeper Niki Brooks. Hornet freshman goalkeeper Brittany Auernig also played the full 90 minutes against the Vikings and recorded a match-high 10 saves. Sacramento State also suffered a 5-0 loss to Colorado College on Monday. The Hornets were very close to getting on the scoreboard in the first half with a Katie McCoy goal, but it was called back on a passive offside call.

STAT LEADERS

Junior midfielder Linda Sanchez is seventh in the Big Sky, averaging 2.08 shots per game. She is also tied for eighth with nine other players in the conference who have notched two goals this season. Senior goalkeepers Michelle Balzouman and Auernig are ranked fifth and sixth in the Big Sky, respectively, with 40 and 38 saves.

UPCOMING MATCHES

Sacramento State will attempt to break its losing streak at Northern Arizona on Friday. The Lumberjacks (3-7-2, 0-0-0) tied Denver by a score of 1-1 on Friday, before suffering a 4-0 loss to Wyoming on Sunday. NAU has not won a game since a 1-0 win over Western Illinois on Sept. 19. They are led by Dani Davis, who has four goals in 2004 and is ranked third in the Big Sky, with 2.75 shots per game. NAU leads the series, 4-3. On Sunday, the Hornets return home for a 3:30 p.m. match with UC Davis. With a Sacramento State win, the women’s soccer team would earn the Hornets five points toward the Causeway Cup. The Aggies (3-8-1) are coming to Hornet Soccer Field after a 4-0 loss to San Francisco on Friday and a 2-1 win over Colorado College on Sunday. Sunday’s game will be preceeded by the Sacramento State men’s soccer team, who will play a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation match with UNLV at 1 p.m. Sunday is also youth soccer day. Youth players who wear their team jerseys to the doubleheader will be admitted for $1.
